It was an amazing performance by the All Souls orchestra and a choir made up of London schools. There were also rousing songs for the audience to take part in as well. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and everybody came back with a sore throat from singing so loudly.

Egg Watch!
Well our eggs slowly began to crack and when we arrived on Wednesday morning we had six little chicks looking at us through the glass of the incubator. By later that day 3 more eggs had hatched. One of our eggs did not hatch but 9 out of 10 is a very good result.

The little fluffy chicks were transferred to their brooder box and have spent the last few days eating, sleeping and growing.

The children have had the chance to visit them and this week the chicks will be visiting the classes for a walkabout before returning to the farm on Friday.

Well done to Year 2 for their brilliant assembly looking at the Great Fire of London. This week is the turn of the reception class for their first assembly as a class of 29, we wish them luck.

Don’t forget on Tuesday 28th March we will be holding a parents open evening. This will be an informal ‘open house’ session in which parents and children can come and share the work the children have done in class over the year. The Governors will be on hand and we will be providing refreshments during the evening. We hope you can attend.

There are still places available for the summer holiday to Sayer’s Croft in June. This countryside week is open to all children from Y4-Y6. At only £80 for 5 days it is great value. Please see Mrs. Hong for details, please can you let us have a deposit by 31st March or if you have paid the deposit please make a further payment to the school office by this date. Thank you.

It is my sad news to tell you that Miss Viv Bryden, Y5 teacher, will be leaving us at Easter. Miss Bryden has been Y5 teacher and KS2 manager and has been an enthusiastic and energetic member of our team. We would all like to wish her luck in her future endeavours.

Miss Tavernier and Mrs. Pacquette will be taking over in Year 5 for the final term on a job share basis. They know the children well and we hope this will ensure a smooth transition.

If you have access to the internet please do look at and comment on the newsletter online at: http://stlukesceprimary.blogspot.com/
You can also link to the Y6 weblog at:
http://year6stlukes.blogspot.com/
Have a good week
Krysta

13th March Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is National Science Week this week and our school theme is ‘The Sun, Moon and Stars’. Each class will be focussing on an aspect of this topic for the week and producing a display of their work.

Don’t forget we will be going to the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday evening to take part in the Proms Praise evening, the theme for this is also ‘The Sun, Moon and Stars’. The coach will be leaving at 5.15pm so please make sure your child arrives on time. We aim to return by 9pm. Unfortunately there are no spare seats available for parents as all the tickets were taken up by children.

Also linked with science week and also in preparation for our Easter celebrations we have taken delivery of 10 live chicken eggs which we are hatching in an incubator. The children will be able to follow their progress as part of our weblog and we hope to get our live webcam set up ready to catch any overnight hatchings.

A reminder to parents that the Easter service will be held on Thursday 30th March at 10am at St. Luke’s Church.

Our new breakfast club runs every day from 7.45—8.15 am. Children are charged 40p per day and also get help with reading and homework. If your child signed up for the club
please ensure they attend as we do have a waiting list. For more details please speak to Miss Tavernier.

Well done to Year 3 for their entertaining assembly looking at the Egyptians last week. We entered two teams in the QPR / BT Community Cup which was played last Monday at the West Way sports centre. They both did very well and it was only due to a scoring error by the judges that we did not get through to the finals, ‘we was robbed’ as they say!

The refurbishment of the playground toilets is finished and we were able to hold a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday when Karen Buck MP visited the school. All the children who entered the poster competition got the chance to see these beautiful new facilities and the 4 winners cut the ribbon for us and declared the new toilets officially open. Well done to Life (Y6), Abby (Y4), Latanya (Y1) and Joe (Y1) for creating the winning posters. Please feel free to have a look at the new toilets if you get the chance.

We began our breakfast club this week with children from Y6 to Y1 enjoying a healthy start to the day. There were some wonderful costumes and the children enjoyed story telling sessions throughout the day. We had a concert for the whole school followed by individual class workshops where the children got the chance to have a go themselves. We are now halfway through the year and work begins in earnest preparing for the end of year tests, which are of most importance in year 2 aand year 6. Assessment also takes place in every class each term. Teachers carry out observations and assessment tests in reading, writing, maths and science each term in order to track the progress of the children and ensure they are moving forward appropriately throughout the year. We will be holding an open evening towards the end of this term to give you the opportunity to see more of your child's work and ask your child's teacher about their progress so far.

We were so pleased that our first ever TAG rugby team made it through to the finals of the Westminster schools competition. We came fourth overall so thanks go to the team, Mr. Morgan and Mr. Walker for accompanying them to the competition ad Mr. Anderson for leading the club each week. A great team effort!

Following on from all our recent sporting adventures we have entered a team in the QPR / BT Community Cup which will be played next Monday at the West Way sports centre.

Over the half term holiday we have had an interactive whiteboard installed in the reception classroom and this week the engineers will complete the installation in year 1. We hope this will make an exciting addition to the teaching and learning in these classes. We now have IWBs in every classroom and along with our new ICT suite, opened last year, we have the highest quality resources available to the children to develop their IC skills.

The refurbishment of the playground toilets is progressing very well and we are hopeful that they will be ready within the next two weeks so we can hold a grand opening ceremony. I am running a poster competition to win the chance to be the first boy and girl to cut the red ribbon and use these beautiful new facilities. Posters can be A4 or A3 size and must tell everyone how to treat our toilets well and keep them looking as good as new. All entries to be in to me by Friday 24th Feb.

On the 15th March we are going to the Royal Albert Hall with Key stage 2 to the Proms Praise for Schools concert. This trip is in the evening and we shall be travelling by coach. If you would like your child to attend please see Mrs. Hong or return the slip from the recent letter as soon as possible. If there are any free places we will be able to offer them to parents.

Unfortunately due to staff training we will have to cancel the girls computer club this Wednesday, but it will be back in action next week.
Have a good week.
Mrs. Parsons

Class Assemblies
Thursdays at 9.15 am in the hall:
23/2/06—Year 1
2/3/067—Year 4
9/3/06—Year3
16/3/06—Year 2
23/3/06—Reception
All parents, carers and friends
Welcome!

Welcome to our new blog

Welcome to our new blog where we will aim to complement our weekly newsletter and let you know more about what is happening at St. Luke's.
